Why you should buy a PS4 in 2014

PlayStation 4 feature

It’s past the halfway mark in 2014 and you are still playing games on your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 – it’s time to upgrade to the PlayStation 4.

Why? We’ll tell you why.

The Price

Some retailers, like Raru, are selling the standard 500GB console bundle for under R6,300. That’s R500 less than the current recommended retail price in SA.

With the Xbox One set to launch in SA in September, it would be safe to assume distributors and suppliers will be providing further discounts to keep people buying PlayStation 4s in the lead up to Christmas.

Free Games

As demonstrated recently in our PS Plus vs Games with Gold feature, Sony give away some decent games every month to PS4 owners who have a Plus subscription. At R489 a year, it’s not a bad deal at all.

Availability of games and peripherals

Having been out for a few months now, the PS4 is starting to find its stride when it comes to game and peripheral availability. Here are some of the titles available now and in the near future, as well as a few accessories.

  • The Last of Us Remastered (exclusive)
  • Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition
  • Destiny
  • Fifa 14
  • Watch Dogs
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order
  • Sniper Elite 3
  • Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
  • Infamous: Second Son (exclusive)
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • Battlefield 4
  • Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
  • Madden 15
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • Far Cry 4
  • NBA 2K14
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity
  • NHL 15
  • MotoGP 14

Plus you can get all the standard extras to show how hardcore a gamer you are, such: as thumb grips; Turtle Beach, Tritton, Gioteck, Orb and official PS4 headsets; stands; and charging docks.

Exclusive titles to come in 2014

Besides what’s on offer already, the PS4 is receiving some solid exclusives before the year ends.

LittleBigPlanet 3

Release Date: November 2014

Developed by Sony’s own Sumo Digital studios – the mind behind the PS Vita LittleBigPlanet – LittleBigPlanet 3 promises a whole new adventure starring a new cast of characters. Sackboy along with his friends Oddsock, Swoop, and Toggle, will be playable in the game.

The developers of LittleBigPlanet 3 have also promised the ability to play all the existing stages built by the community in previous games.

The creators of Motorstorm are back in full force thanks to DriveClub. The game is not only a PS4 exclusive, but PS Plus subscribers will be able to download a scaled down version of the game (10 cars, 11 tracks, and all the game modes) for free.

The game focuses on on-road racing more than off-road racing, and will rely strongly on a community aspect with its multiplayer features. You will create a club and race other clubs online, earn respect, and level up.

Deep Down

Release Date: Late 2014

The game that looks like Demon’s Souls and has a similar multiplayer aspect to that of Dark Souls, Deep Down is an upcoming free-to-play title for the PS4. This dungeon crawler revolves around a player exploring memories collected in artifacts.

Explore dungeons and fight off monsters with medieval weapons in this procedurally generated game.

Road Not Taken

Release Date: August 2014

This puzzle game is set in a frozen world where you have to move items around a grid to meet specific goals, like reuniting families. The game is very similar to Triple Town, another game by Spry Fox that revolves around the same mechanics.

InFamous: First Light

Release Date: August 2014

InFamous: First light focuses on Abigail Walker, also known as Fetch, from the original Second Son game. The story is set in the Snowy Curdun Cay where Fetch is locked up in prison because of her superpowers. She is forced to relive the tragedies of her past while battling to escape the prison.

It does go both ways there is plenty of evidence all over the net. I think a big reason why is because a PS or Xbox is essentially a PC just a proprietary PC if you know what I mean where Sony or MS control their market with low cost hardware to entice the market while raping their customers through software sales. This essentially affects the usual PC gamer who just wants freedom but now he has to go alone and buy and PS1 then 2 then 3 then 4 aswell as a Xbox XY and Z just so he can play all his games WHY they are all capable of playing the games its just limited so they can milk you dry – consoles need to go the sooner the better and replaced with something like the steambox or similar – more open less controlled and cross platform which allows the customer to choose their platform without being pushed because of exclusives.
