I love me some Collector’s Editions. Those pretty figurines; those bundled comic books; and those awesome hardcover art books.
But some people love Collector’s Editions a little more than others, especially when it comes to rare, limited quantity editions.
Searching the net over the weekend for a Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition copy, having won one at a local event and wanted to see what the fuss was about, I came across a few other games that have Limited Editions or Collector’s Editions that are very, very pricey.
Here they are:
Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition – R2, 499
Limited to just over 15, 000 copies, the Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition came in a sexy book replica that resembled the angel book from both games.
The box came with both Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 bundled in one box but in separate game boxes compared to the normal edition that had both games in one box.
Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunters Collector’s Edition – R92, 000 – R180, 000
200, that is the number of Fortune Hunter Editions that ever shipped.
Naughty Dog’s second instalment in the Uncharted series had the Fortune Hunter Edition that came a replica dagger artefact from the game.
The bundle also came with a normal edition of the game compared to the Steelbook edition that everyone got when ordering the Collector’s Edition. So that dagger will essentially cost you around R90, 000.00.
Mortal Kombat X came in two editions, the Kollector’s Edition and the Kollector’s Editon by Coarse.
The standard Kollector’s Edition shipped in over 70, 000 copies whereas the Coarse Edition shipped just over 35, 000.
The Coarse Edition didn’t hit SA, but if you are keen on spending R3, 000.00, you can go ahead and purchase it for what amounts to double the retail price.
When the Witcher 3 launched here back in May, the retail price of the game was R, 2499.00.
This was much higher than the US version which was listed at $149.00; this was due to the shipping and logistics required of such a huge box, which is understandable.
Those of you who failed to pick up this epic edition back in May can rest assured that you can purchase the product for just over R3, 000.00. If you feel like purchasing the content separately, you can also grab the medallion for R550.00, the pac of Gwent cards or R1, 500.00, the cloth map for R300.00, the Steelbook, without the game, for R300.00 and the Griffin Statue for R1, 000.00.
Assassin’s Creed Limited Edition – R80, 000
Before Unity and Black Flag, and before Ezio’s overly-focused storyline, there was the original Assassin’s Creed.
Bundled with the original game, in a standard game box, this edition also came with na Altair figurine. Today, this Edition goes for over R80, 000, which is absurd.
And that’s not because it was limited, but it’s the oldest edition in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Bioshock Limited Collector’s Edition – R3, 800
One of the greatest games of last generation was Bioshock. The birth of the Big Daddy and the start of the beautiful world of Rapture.
The Collector’s Edition for the original Bioshock came with a replica Big Daddy, every fan’s dream.
Today, this edition goes for around R3, 800.00, which is not that bad given the game’s huge success.
Ni No Kuni: Wizard’s Edition – R3, 600
One of the best RPGs on the PS3 also has one of the rarest Collector’s Editions to date.
Ni No Kuni’s Wizard’s Edition started selling out just days after the announcement.
This limited edition came with a replica of the Wizard’s Companion Book that was featured in the game, as well as a Drippy Plush Doll and two exclusive gold familiars.
Dying Light’s My Apocalypse Edition – R4.8 million
Technically not available for purchase in SA, we couldn’t help but include this ridiculous Collector’s Edition.
The mother of all Collector’s Editions released with Techland’s zombies smasher, Dying Light, back in March. The My Apocalypse Edition included the following:
- Custom built Dying Light Zombie Home by Tiger Log Cabins
- Zombie avoidance parkour lessons with Ampisound, the team behind the internet smash Dying Light Parkour POV video
- Be The Zombie match with devs where you win so you can brag to your friends how ‘leet’ you are
- Trip to Techland in Wroclaw, Poland, to meet the dev team and party with Steve the Zombie Consultant
- Your face skinned onto your Night Hunter character model
- Dying Light branded night vision goggles + adult diapers for the night portions of the game
- x4 signed SteelBox editions of Dying Light
- x2 top of the line Razer Tiamat headphones
This fancy lifestyle-changing edition went for £250, 000, pennies!
