EA’s Gamescom 2015 Press Conference Highlights

EA - Gamescom 2015 - Press Conference

EA had 60 minutes to shine and, hopefully, demonstrate the games we wanted to see.

We thought we were in for sporty, sports ,sports; instead, we got everything we wanted to see, and one FIFA 16 trailer.

Thus far, EA has a solid line-up for the next year or so, including Star Wars: Battlefront, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2.

We never got to see Mass Effect: Andromeda, but what we did see was pretty great

Need for Speed

The latest Need for Speed trailer showcased the game’s deep car customization and modification system. Speed, style, build, crew and outlaw, all characteristics you need to keep in mind when developing your car.

They’re the 5 main focus points of the new Need for Speed, and as a result, they govern a good portion of the game.

The latest Need for Speed is a brand new reboot of the series, and will feature all new car mechanics as well as live-action cutscenes throughout the entirety of the game.

It’s also set to feature iconic industry professionals from the motor industry, alongside real-life actors.

It’s been two years since the last Need for Speed title, Need for Speed Rivals, and it looks like this latest title will make the wait worthwhile.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst

EA showed off some new artwork for Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, but they didn’t stop there.

The trailer showed off some enticing gameplay, a vast open-world with which to master your parkour, and a compelling story to get behind.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a follow up to the 2008 title, Mirror’s Edge. The game mixes up hand-to-hand combat, with intense parkour, and it all takes place in a highly-futuristic, supposedly utopian, city.

The game also intends to tell the story of Faith’s past, regularly going back in time to take a look at what shaped Faith to be the woman she is today.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Knight of the Fallen Empire

BioWare is bringing us the latest Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic expansion pack, Knights of the Fallen Empire.

The expansion will feature new worlds, companions and a dynamic storyline affected by the choices a player makes.

The game will be focused on a new threat, The Eternal Empire, and its leader, The Emperor of the Eternal Throne.

The Sims 4

EA showed off how far the game has come since launch last year, highlighting the game’s monthly content patches and added features.

EA also announced the latest expansion pack, The Sims 4: Get Together, releasing November, 2015.

The expansion will bring a new social ability to your Sim as they now host parties at new locations and plan major social events.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2

EA Games revealed 3 new plants for the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2.

There’s Rose, a sorcerer that traps enemies in a time hold and subsequently turns them into goats. Colonel Corn, who can call air support that comes in the form of buttered popcorn, and uses his cob busters to take down enemies in close range. And finally, Citron is a futuristic orange that can turn into a ball to move faster as well as sporting a deployable shield.

The latest trailer showed off the Backyard Playground. This hub will act as a social area where other players will be seen running around with you. You can automatically find people to play with and jump into games from the parties you create.

EA also announced a partnership with BioWare, revealing an exclusive pre-order costume designed after the N7 suit.

Unravel

The latest gameplay from Unravel put a big emphasis on physics and how moving blocks and avoiding water will contribute to the game’s puzzle mechanics.

Unravel was first unveiled at E23 2015, and since then has become one of the most anticipated games to look out for.

We don’t know when the game is releasing, but we do know that its lighthearted setting and adorable protagonist should be worth the wait.

Star Wars: Battlefront

The game that we were all waiting to see. The trailer showed off a brand new gameplay mode on a brand new map.

Fighter Squadron is a 20-player game mode where you will take to the skies in a massive Star Wars dogfight.

For the first time, we got to see air battles, and boy did it look good!

Star Wars Battlefront is set for release in November.

FIFA 16

The latest FIFA 16 trailer put a massive emphasis on the players in game. It showed off the facial-capture technology used to bring the players into the game, and how realistic they look compared to a real-life scenario.

EA highlighted the 12 female national teams that will be present in the game for the first time in FIFA history.
