5 reasons to keep your Xbox 360 and PS3

While the newer Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles are dominating the headlines these days, and understandably so, their predecessors aren’t on there way out just yet.

The good ol’ Xbox 360 and PS3 still have a lot of life in them, and with these upcoming releases, there’s no doubt that your trusty last-gen machines are yet to deliver some great experiences.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Q4 2015 (Xbox 360 – also available on: Xbox One)

The Tomb Raider reboot was a refreshing take on the life and antics of a young Lara Croft, injecting some new blood into a somewhat dying franchise.

We saw Lara go from scared 20-something to an artifact-hunting heroine in the first game, and Rise of the Tomb Raider will continue that journey.

Lara must now explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organisation known as Trinity does.

There’s a host of new survival skills, weapons, abilities and things to explore, as Lara embraces her destiny to become the Tomb Raider.

Transformers: Devastation

6 October (Xbox 360, PS3 – also available on: Xbox One, PS4, PC)

We’ve had some pretty fun Transformers games released alongside the big-screen counterparts, but no game has truly captured the nostalgia and vivid visuals of the G1 cartoon, until now.

Transformers: Devastation is an upcoming beat-’em-up action game based on the original Transformers cartoon series from the ’80s.

What’s even better is that the crazy minds at Platinum Games (of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Bayonetta fame) are developing this one.

Players will be able to control one of five Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack and Grimlock as they battle against Decepticon forces in large 3D environments.

We’re ready to roll-out for this one because it looks splendid.

FIFA 16

24 September (PS3, Xbox 360 – also on: Xbox One, PS4, PC, PS Vita)

If there’s one game you can count to feature on the Xbox 360 and PS3 until their sunset it’s FIFA.

From all new player movement and likeness, to realistic animations and attributes, the FIFA development team have authentically recreated 12 of the top-ranked teams in the world for FIFA 16.

Capturing all new player movement was done with meticulous detail and supported by a motion capture session at EA Canada with four top players from United States Women’s National Team: Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe.

That’s right, women teams are coming to FIFA; it’s about time.

LEGO Dimensions

27 September (PS3, Xbox 360 – also on: Xbox One, PS4, Wii U)

The LEGO games have become incredibly popular with both younger and more serious gaming audiences, and there’s a reason for that – they’re incredibly fun.

While already great, LEGO Dimensions is set to take that to a new level. LEGO Dimensions combines characters and settings from multiple Warner Bros. properties, much like Disney’s Infinity game, along with the unique qualities of LEGO building bricks and Minifigures.

Players will use a portal-like platform to project their real-life figures into the game. Characters and playsets already confirmed include Batman, Scooby-doo, Portal, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who and more.

Minecraft: Story Mode

Late 2015 (Xbox 360, PS3 – also available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, PS Vita, Android, iOS)

If you thought Minecraft was fun but lacked a little bit of narrative direction, you’ll be pretty excited for Minecraft: Story Mode.

The upcoming game is an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale (The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands) in collaboration with Mojang.

Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice.

This looks pretty interesting, and with the voice talents of Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson and Catherine Taber on-board, this is building up to be a real blockbuster.
