We’re at about the midpoint way through 2016, so we thought it would be fitting to take a look at the highest rated games of the year on Metacritic, with Sony’s console stepping into the limelight.

Here are the highest-rated PS4 games of 2016 (so far):

5. Tales from the Borderlands: A Telltale Games Series

Metacritic Score: 86

Tales from the Borderlands is Telltale’s episodic adventure series all wrapped in one retail box, and it’s one of the highest-rated PS4 games of the year.

The game follows the lines of Telltale’s other game series, The Walking Dead, bringing a brilliant story, amazing moments, and characters you’ll absolutely fall in love with.

It marries the series’ cheeky humour and laugh-out laughs with some properly touching and poignant moments. This is as essential as it gets.

4. The Witness

Metacritic Score: 87

The Witness comes from the man behind the mind-bending puzzle-platformer, Braid. It’s a first-person puzzle game, where you’re on an island devoid of life but full of the remnants of life.

There are puzzles strewn all over the place and a variety of structures you can explore, but what is the meaning of it all? That’s up for you to discover, often through audio diaries or environmental clues.

The Witness is a quiet, smart game that’s full of secrets and puzzles to test even the brightest minds.

3. Dark Souls III

Metacritic Score: 89

The Dark Souls series has generated a cult-like following of punishment-loving players, and the third instalment is arguably the best to date, giving players the most well-rounded and definitive Dark Souls experience in the franchise.

The monsters are bigger, the creatures are more grotesque, and the difficulty curve is as steep as ever, but it’s also one the most rewarding and satisfying experiences gamers will have in 2016.

2. Overwatch

Metacritic Score: 90

Blizzard’s shot at the multiplayer shooter genre has gone down with a bang on Sony’s console.

The reason for this shooter’s immediate success is that at its core, Overwatch is a mix of many other very successful things, blended together into a cohesive, glossy, and tight competitive game that looks as gorgeous as it plays.

1. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Metacritic Score: 93

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End reminds us exactly why we love Naughty Dog’s award-winning action adventure franchise.

Uncharted 4‘s personalised story brings the narrative to a heartfelt conclusion that rounds off the character development of Nathan Drake, and marks the end of one of the best franchises of the past two console generations.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a must-play for any PS4 owner.

UC4 is great, But its hard to play it once you’ve completed the game the first time which is brilliant as this is the last installment and it really gives you the feeling that its enough.
