DataWind, Coby, Point of View, Prestigo, and Netsurfer are all offering tablets at budget prices.
While many of the tablets don’t feature the high-end specs you would find on devices like the iPad or Google Nexus 7, the following devices win the price game.
Aakash tablet (Takealot) – R724
The Aakash is definitely one of the cheapest tablet PCs in the world.
Developed by DataWind, the 7-inch tablet features Android 2.2 Froyo, an ARM11 366MHz processor, 2GB of internal flash memory, and up 32GB microSD.
Point of View Protab (Takealot) – R999
The Point of View Protab 7-inch tablet features Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), a Coretx A8 1.0GHz processor, 512MB system memory, 2GB NAND, and WiFi capabilities.
It also features a Micro SD card reader and 0.3 MP front camera.
Coby Kyros 7-inch Android Tablet 4GB (Expansys) – R1,324.99
The Coby Kyros is not a bad option in the low-cost tablet market, given its specs.
The Coby Kyros has a 7-inch 800 x 480 resolution touch-screen, 0.72GHz ARM processor, Android 2.1 operating system, and 4GB of storage.
Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime WiFi Tablet (Takealot) – R1,054
The Prestigio Multipad 7.0 features Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), a 1GHz CPU, 512MB RAM, 2,500mAh battery, and wiFi.
It also comes with pre-installed apps, and at this price, it’s nice to know the manufacturer notes the inclusion of USB and OTG cables.
Netsurfer Lite WiFi Tablet (Takealot) – R1,399
While not the most well-known brand, the Netsurfer Lite is a viable option for its price.
The tablet features a 7-inch multi-touch capacitive display, 800 x 480 resolution, gorilla glass, 1Ghz A13 CPU, 512MB DDR3 memory, and 8GB of internal storage.
