Self-driving cars could lead to more sex

Experts are concerned about the effects self-driving cars will have on those behind the wheel.

The issue is that should the self-driving system fail or human intervention be necessary, drivers will be too distracted to take the wheel in time.

“The issue of the attentive driver is … problematic,” said one note contained in a stream of emails about Tesla’s so-called self-driving car.

“Drivers tend to overestimate the performance of automation and will naturally turn their focus away from the road when they turn on their auto-pilot,.

What are these drivers doing exactly?

“I am predicting that, once computers are doing the driving, there will be a lot more sex in cars,” said Barrie Kirk of the Canadian Automated Vehicles Centre of Excellence.

“That’s one of several things people will do which will inhibit their ability to respond quickly when the computer says to the human, ‘Take over.”

While we imagine “other” activities will increase with fully-automated cars taking to the roads in the future, a more immediate concern is how texting and talking on smartphones will sky-rocket.

Fully-automated cars (which are still a long way off) should not be confused with cars that are self-driving.
