AMD’s Radeon RX 490 could release in December 2016

AMD Radeon Vega October

Various leaks and rumours point to a December 2016 release for the Radeon RX 490 graphics card, WCCFTech reports.

The graphics card will reportedly be announced and launched on the same day in December, and is already listed on some AIB websites.

AMD’s Radeon RX 490 GPU will be the flagship graphics card for the RX Series, and will compete with Nvidia’s currently unchallenged GeForce GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 in the high-end performance bracket.

There has been much speculation regarding the Radeon RX 490, with the working theory being that it is a Dual GPU Polaris 10 graphics card, which would place it on the same performance level as Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080.

The RX 490 will be the biggest graphics card manufactured using the 14nm FinFet technology on which the Polaris 10 architecture is based.

If the Radeon RX 490 uses two full-sized Polaris 10 GPUs, it may well be faster than the GeForce GTX 1080, as it would be equivalent to or better than running two Radeon RX 480 graphics cards in a Crossfire configuration.

AMD has not officially announced the product yet, but if the rumours and leaks are true, then it will launch the Radeon RX 490on the same day it is announced.
