AMD has revealed its release plans for Zen 4 accelerated processing units (APUs) to improve on the current Ryzen 6000-series chips.
The new processors are called Dragon Range and Phoenix and will form part of AMD’s new 7000-series CPUs.
Dragon Range will run in enthusiast gaming laptops, whereas Phoenix will power thin-and-light machines.
AMD alleges that Dragon Range processors will have “the highest core, thread, and cache ever for a mobile gaming CPU.”

Considering the excellent performance boost RDNA 2 integrated graphics has brought to gaming laptops with Ryzen 6000-series processors, the new APUs promise to make gaming above 60 fps on enterprise laptops a reality.
The Dragon Range CPUs will have a power draw of above 55W, support DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0, and run on AMD’s upcoming 5 nanometer Zen 4 architecture.
Phoenix APUs share these same features but will run between 35 and 45 Watts.
AMD has also provided an update regarding its Ryzen 7000-series desktop processors’ release window.
The latest generation of AMD’s enthusiast desktop CPUs, named Raphael, are set to launch in the second half of 2022.
