According to Fudzilla, AMD’s new generation of CPU’s should be out in August or September after being delayed for a few weeks.
Fudzilla reports that the range will start with the FX-4100 quad-code CPU that will be clocked at 3.6GHz. This processor will be accompanied by the FX-4120, which we can expect to be clocked slightly higher. Both these CPUs will draw 95W.
Then there is the FX-6100, which is a six-core CPU that will be clocked at 3.3GHz, but will push itself to 3.9GHz under load using AMD’s Boost technology. Accompanying the FX-6100 will be the FX-6120, which we expect will be clocked slightly higher. Both these parts will draw 95W.
The flashship eight-core CPUs will start with the FX-8100, which will come clocked at 2.8GHz, and be capable of hitting 3.7GHz on Boost. The slightly more powerful FX-8120 will come at 3.1 GHz and will boost to 4GHz. Then there is the top-of-the-range FX-8150 which will be clocked at 3.6GHz, and be capable of hitting 4.2GHz on boost. CPU’s in the eight-core range will also each draw 95W.
None of this information is technically official, and AMD has remained tight lipped. However, Fudzilla has proved a remarkably reliable source when it comes to sniffing out details of upcoming hardware in the past.
We still have no idea what sort of price points AMD will sell the new processors at, and it’s hard to be sure when exactly they will become available, although various sources are anticipating an August-September time-frame.
