5 coolest CPU coolers

26 September 2011

A vitally important component, CPU coolers are often a focal point in any gaming system.

We take a look at 5 efficient, good looking coolers available in South Africa.

Noctua D14

Noctua was the little company that could, and burst onto the scene offering some of the best cooling solutions available at highly competitive prices. The D14 may no longer be the undisputed king of air coolers, but its large size and unusual colour scheme coupled with its great performance and quiet operation makes this a popular choice among gamers.

Coolermaster V10

The ‘big daddy’ of the Coolermaster V range, the V10, is a combined air/Thermoelectric (TEC) cooling solution to provide low, stable temperatures even during CPU intensive tasks. Its monstrous size and daunting price tag may stop it from being the most popular CPU cooler among gamers, but the V10 is certainly a talking point.

Thermalright Silver Arrow

Not as large or as flashy as the competition, the Silver Arrow has gained a measure of respect in the gaming community thanks to its stellar performance. The relatively unassuming looks mean that the Silver arrow will appear at home in almost any system, and won’t cause the same installation headaches some of its larger competitors would.

Thermaltake SpinQ VT

If it involves cooling, guaranteed Thermaltake will be in with an elaborate cooler. The SpinQ VT takes a very different cooling approach to most of the other coolers on this list. While it might not be at the forefront of cooling abilities, the SpinQ VT will get the conversation going at the next LAN.

Corsair H70

The Corsair H50 brought all-in-one liquid coolers to the mainsteam and garnered a reputation for top level performance. The H70 unit builds on this reputation with an improved design, thicker radiator and additional fan. Relatively expensive when compared to its air cooling competition, the H70 still manages to sell well thanks to the ‘water cooling’ bragging rights it brings to the system.

CPU coolers are often judged solely on their cooling ability, but there comes a time when gamers are willing to trade a few degrees of CPU temperature for a cooler that fits into their system both physically and aesthetically.
