Intel’s Haswell is launching next week and final pictures of the box art have been leaked online.
Previous images leaked by VR-Zone had the internet up in arms because it looked terribad (saying terrible and bad just doesn’t have the same weight as terribad). Intel also started up a countdown timer that counted in nanoseconds and confirmed that Haswell was going to be launched on 4 June 2013 and be available in retail stores soon.
It really does look quite gaudy and reminds one of the toy figurine (also pictured) that Intel used to feature back in the 90’s. Those were so cheesy that there wasn’t even any seriousness attached to them – it was an Intel lab tech inside a golden suit with a helmet that looks like something out of Dead Space. If the Necromorphs weren’t going to drive Isaac insane, that gold colour definitely would have.
But my mother always tells me to never judge a book by its cover – I suppose that can be extended to computer box art as well. Haswell will be quite interesting and the improvements to power usage, efficiency and the possible return of BLCK overclocking will be the real measure of the chip’s success, not the fact that the box it comes in is hideous.
