Sony announced its new range of Android-based Xperia devices on Wednesday, 3 September 2014, all of which now include Remote Play for PlayStation 4 (PS4).
Remote Play lets PS4 owners connect an Xperia Z3, Z Compact, or Z3 Tablet Compact to their console via Wi-Fi and use it as a remote screen.
Sony also has a Game Control Mount accessory for the new devices that can be used to attach the smartphone or tablet to a Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller.
As with their predecessors, all of the new devices in Sony’s Xperia Z range come with water and dust resistance ratings.
The ratings have improved with this generation, however, with Sony now offering IP65 and IP68 compliance on all three devices.
This means that they are waterproof and dust tight provided all ports and covers are firmly closed.
Their waterproofing ratings indicate that the devices are protected against low pressure jets of water from all practicable directions, and can be kept under 1.5m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.
Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, and both LTE and Wi-Fi variants of the Z3 Tablet Compact will launch globally “from autumn 2014” (spring in the Southern hemisphere).
