AMD HD6000 coming in October

23 September 2010

We have it on pretty good authority that AMD’s HD6000 series will be launched towards the end of next month. We can’t say too much, but you can expect a big reveal in the third week of the month.

You don’t have to take MyGaming’s word for it though, as Fudzilla’s own moles corroborate a late October launch, so you can take this one to the bank.

Codenamed Northern Islands, the HD 6000 series will be the first Radeon card to ship without that ATi logo. While the big reveal will come next month, we expect actual shipping time will lag by about a month, so we should see the cards hitting shelves around the same time the HD5000 series first appeared in the wild – around early November in South Africa.

The HD6000 series will be more of an evolution of the current HD5000 series, rather than a GPU revolution. So, we can expect it to be slightly faster, but not enough to tempt current HD 5000 owners to upgrade. As always, pricing and performance will be key to the product’s success, and these key features remain to be seen.
