With the recent release of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, gamers are just beginning to get a taste of the possibilities that VR headsets offer.

Virtual Reality also has the potential to completely change the way people consume media, such as feature films or interactive communication.

The new gameplay features and mechanics offered by the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive offer many opportunities to use and improve the technology.

Starbreeze has seen the potential that lies within the virtual reality market, and has developed its own VR headset – the StarVR.

StarVR is specifically aimed at the high-end gaming market, boasting better specifications than both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The product was designed to create the best VR experience possible, as oppose to producing a more affordable option.

The specifications of the Star VR headset mean that gamers will need a heavy-duty machine to enjoy the device, as the prototype had difficulty producing playable framerates running off of a Titan X.

The expanded field of view and 5K display allows gamers to experience a level of immersion deeper than that offered by the current, early generation of virtual reality headsets. However, this level of immersion can only be conveyed if certain performance benchmarks are met, meaning that if gamers want to enjoy the StarVR at a playable level of performance, they will need a heavy-duty gaming rig.

StarVR is currently in active development, and various companies such as Toshiba and Acer have partnered with Starbreeze to make the device a reality.

Check out the specifications of Starbreeze’s virtual reality below.
