Lenovo has relaunched the Motorola brand in South Africa, beginning with the Moto Z smartphone.
The phone will be available in South Africa from 1 November at Takealot.com and Cellucity, with Dion Wired set to sell it from 13 November.
The Z comes in at 5.19mm thick — thanks to it dropping the headphone jack in favour of a USB Type-C adapter — and supports a range of “Mods”.
Mods are accessories that snap onto the back of the device, such as a Hasselblad compact camera mod, an extended battery, and a pocket projector.
The Moto Z is made from “military aircraft-grade aluminium and stainless steel”, and features a 5.5-inch quad-HD display.
Hardware specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and microSD support for up to 2TB.
A 13MP main camera, 5MP front camera, fingerprint reader, and “water-repellent coating” are also counted among the phone’s features.
The recommended retail prices of the Moto Z, which will be available in black and lunar grey, and its various mods are as follows:
- Moto Z (comes with Moto Style Shell): R12,999
- Moto Insta-Share Projector Mod: R4,699
- Incipio offGrid Power Pack Mod: R1,199
- JBL SoundBoost Mod: R1,699
- Hasselblad True Zoom Mod: R4,299
