Samsung DeX no longer requires dedicated accessories

Samsung has released three new options for its DeX functionality, all of which use simple adapters to run the application on monitors.

DeX was first released with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ ranges of Samsung devices. It allows users to utilise their cellphone as a PC-like device by running it through computer monitors and allowing for mouse and keyboard input.

Previously, the only options available to DeX users were the DeX Station and DeX Pad – both of which are dedicated accessories that were necessary to run the DeX application.

These are the new options available to Samsung device users:

  • DeX Cable, which allows users to use the application with just one cable.
  • Multi Port Adapter, which allows for the connection of peripherals like keyboards and mice. It supports four port types: HDMI, ethernet, USB 2.0 and USB Type C.
  • HDMI Adapter, which is a low-cost way to access Samsung DeX.

An additional bonus that these new offerings provide is that you can simultaneously use DeX on a monitor while using your mobile device as normal. S Pen integration is also available to Galaxy Note 9 users, which allows them to take notes on their phone while using DeX.

Samsung first released the DeX Station in 2017, seeking to bridge the gap between mobile and PC experiences. Samsung has evolved this technology to allow users to use their mobile phone as a touchpad or keyboard, and these new adapters are the next stage in DeX’s evolution.

Samsung DeX is available on the following Samsung devices:

  • Galaxy S8
  • Galaxy S8+
  • Galaxy S9
  • Galaxy S9+
  • Note 8
  • Note 9
  • Tab S4
