Sony will stop shipping the PlayStation Portable to Japan this month, June 2014. No announcement has been made regarding the international market as yet.
To ease the blow, Sony announced two new PS Vita value packs for the country and is offering Japanese gamers discounts on PS Vita products if they trade in their PSP.
The PSP was first announced during E3 2003 and officially unveiled at a Sony press conference later that year. It launched in Japan in late 2004, and in North America in early 2005. An upgraded version was launched in 2007, followed by the PSP-3000 in 2008.
Sony discontinued the new design in 2011 to focus on the PSP’s successor, the PlayStation Vita, which launched worldwide in 2012.
