This is why Apple doesn’t want you to repair your iPhone

Apple is going to extreme measures to ensure you buy a new phone rather than repair your old one, reports the Huffington post.

This is despite the company charging an astronomical fee for iPhone, iPad, and Mac repairs including up to $599 (R9,120) to repair a damaged screen.

As a result, customers are encouraged to pony up that little extra to buy an entirely new device, resulting in not only another sale for Apple but a massive amount of e-waste being generated as these broken Apple products are discarded.

This could all change soon however, with new “right to repair” amendments being introduced across the United States.

This would allow anyone (not just those endorsed by Apple) to access the required information needed to repair Apple products, driving down repair costs and e-waste.

The first decisions on the amendment are expected before the end of June.
