Okay, it’s still a year off in the future, but apparently Microsoft will be revealing its next-generation Xbox console at E3 2012. That’s according to “a high-ranking industry source at Crytek”, who presumably broke a significant number of very important non-disclosure agreements to pass on the news to VideoGamer.
The source claims that while technical specs for the new console are not yet finalised, Crytek has been working with DirectX 11 and CryEngine 3 on Timesplitters 4, which is supposedly one of the console’s launch titles. A video demo of this project was allegedly shown “privately” at E3 last week. Hmm, hmm, hmm.
It’s not an altogether unlikely possibility that Microsoft will announce its Xbox 360 successor within the next year or so, although the console’s actual launch would probably be at least two years away, maybe even more. There’s still a lot of cash to be made with Kinect.
Both Microsoft and Crytek have declined to comment on the rumour. Obviously.
