Mom beats kid to death for breaking TV while playing a Wii game

22 June 2011

A 21-year old Bronx mom has been charged with murder and manslaughter after beating her 5-year old son to death for breaking the TV while playing a Wii game.

According to a report on the NY Times, Kim Crawford admits she’d hit her kid “harder than I’ve ever hit him”, then left him vomiting and complaining of pain for five days because she was worried she’d be arrested if she took him to the hospital. The boy died of an infection in his ruptured pancreas and intestines.

“I was worried they’d see the bruises and I’d get in trouble,” she eventually confessed to investigating officers, after first telling them he’d simply become ill, fallen asleep, and not woken up, and later claiming he’d hurt himself on the playground.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Crawford has a previous record for drugs and assault, as well as a long history of domestic incidents with the child’s father.
