Xbox gets exclusive timed DLC deal for Skyrim

27 August 2011

Competition between the various gaming platforms is fierce, and rival platforms will use every advantage they can to herd gamers towards their product, usually through the use of exclusive deals. Unfortunately, this can often leave owners of one platform feeling disgruntled and left out.

Microsoft has just announced such a deal with Bethesda Softworks, regarding DLC for the highly anticipated 5th installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise, Skyrim. The first two DLC packages for Skyrim will be made available to Xbox users a full thirty days before anyone else. Thus if you’re not on Xbox Live, the only thing to do is wait.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has used DLC exclusive content to try and get gamers to purchase their multi-platform titles for the 360. Deals like this rub a lot of gamers the wrong way (presumably those who don’t own an Xbox), and somewhat predictably, the calls for a boycott have already been ringing around the interwebs.
