Beyond rampant fanboyism, there is little doubt that Battlefield 3 is going to be one of the hottest multiplayer FPS titles of 2011.
As the title nears release for all platforms on 28 October 2011, we have been keeping in touch with local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to find out who will be hosting official, EA ranked dedicated servers.
We’ve already had word that the Battlefield 3 server pricing may be prohibitive but for one of the biggest titles of 2011, and going into 2012, it seems that local ISPs are pushing forward regardless.
At this stage it is tricky for the ISPs to outright confirm, as they are still making deals with EA, but so far the indications are good that SA gamers will be getting the benefits of ranked play with local server pings.
MWEB Gaming Manager Desmond Kurz said that “MWEB is in the process of becoming an official partner for hosting Battlefield 3 Ranked Servers and it’s our intention to provide servers for the game as soon as the deal is concluded.”
Web Africa (WAGE) confirmed that they have been given by EA the option to host ranked servers, but cannot confirm anything until the contractual documentation between Web Africa and EA has been concluded. “To that end we can state that we intend to host servers, and will confirm once the paperwork has been signed,” said Web Africa’s Reinhard Rheeder-Kleist.
We also have word from iGame that they are looking at hosting EA ranked servers, but did not want to discuss details until agreements are in place.
Internet Solutions and SAIX Gaming did not respond by the time of publication.
