Incoming World of Warcraft update adds Deathwing raid

19 September 2011

There’s another World of Warcraft patch in the works, and it’s got Deathwing’s number on it. That stupid dragon is going down, so hard.

“It’s a very long encounter,” lead game designer Tom Chilton told Eurogamer. “You start of at Wyrmrest Temple defeating various minions of Deathwing. There are basically six bosses that lead up to the Deathwing encounter itself.”

He goes on to describe the raid in some detail, which you can read over there if you don’t mind spoiling some of the surprise, although it’s definitely a bring-your-own-poopsock affair.

The patch – which is reportedly due to launch on the Public Test Realm servers “within a couple of weeks” – brings World of Warcraft: Cataclysm up to version 4.3.

It also adds a “new Legendary set of daggers for the most devoted rogues”, as well as new game features like Transmogrification custom gear creation optoins, an 80-slot pay-per-item “Void Storage” inventory container, Raid Finder matchmaking.
