Nintendo NX: more rumoured details emerge

Nintendo is preparing to unveil its next gaming system, but the Japanese company has been very coy on what exactly this new device is.

While many have thought it to be a console successor to the Wii U, some new information via Eurogamer claims that the NX is in fact a portable, handheld device, with two detachable controllers.

Similar to the Wii U’s tablet controller, the NX will have its own display and will be able to function independently from any TV or input source. However, two controllers on either side (used for gaming while on the move) can be disconnected for two-player use.

A base unit, or dock station, is then used to connect the screen and “brain” portion of the NX – within the controller – to display on your TV.

Regarding what’s under the hood, Nintendo has also chosen Nvidia’s powerful Tegra mobile processor as the centrepiece of the NX, according to sources, that is.

Finally, it’s rumoured that Nintendo is prepping a full reveal of the NX for September 2016.
