Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has a crazy amount of microtransactions

Microtransactions are not unusual in many of today’s modern AAA titles, but it is unusual for a singleplayer game to launch with over R300 worth of DLC and optional microtransactions.

That’s why the newly-launched Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has proved to be incredibly divisive amongst fans.

The Season Pass is currently available for R249.50 on Steam, with reviews being tepid at best due to the lack of content included.

Alternatively, you could pay R41.50 for the “Assault” or ‘Tactical Packs”, giving you exclusive access to unique weapons.

You can also purchase health and Praxis kits directly in game to aid you in your singleplayer campaign. These are bought using real-world currency, with prices reaching up to R149.00 for 15,000 in-game credits.

To add insult to injury, the games’s pre-order DLC, which included Praxis Kits, ammo, credits, and crafting parts could only be used on a single playthrough.

Eidos Montreal’s community manager Poticha recently confirmed to Reddit that the DLC does not influence how the game plays in any way:

Hi everyone. Here’s how things work:

Consumables (Praxis Kits, Ammo, Credits, Crafting Parts) are one-time use items. They will be in the storage section of your inventory, until you decide to add them to it. Once you do, they will be ‘consumed’ in your current playthrough, and not re-usable. Consumables work the way they do due to first party constraints.

Durables (Weapons, Skins, Augmentations) are not one-time use. They will automatically be available in all of your playthroughs, once you have downloaded and installed them.
