I recently had chance to sit down and try-out the three “big” VR headsets – the HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift, and the PS VR.
While I enjoyed my time with all of the VR headsets, it was still very much a controlled environment and there’s no way of telling if that would carry over to my experience at home.
Specifically, a problem with all this hands-on time is that it doesn’t account for all the games releasing on the platform – what’s the point of paying for an expensive headset if it’s only going to have two games you actually want to play.
It seems one headset has this problem more than others, and in an open letter to Valve, popular YouTuber Woodsie addressed this point directly.
While games released at a breakneck speed for the platform, it’s clear that Valve has placed less time and investment in its Vive than Sony or Facebook.
Furthermore Woodsie posits that Valve is using novelty as a crutch for its releases rather than developing meaningful experiences for the platform.

Most of the games i’ve bought for the Vive are being updated at an impressive pace so i don’t share this pessimism.
