There’s seemingly a clear divide between PC and console gamers.
Whether it’s because of the superior horsepower or simply a loyalty to the PC master race, there rarely seems to be a willingness to concede that consoles just do some things better.
Here are four reasons you should think about getting a console instead of a gaming PC:
Cost
There’s no other way around it – a R5,000 console that you can plug straight into your TV and will last you 4-5 years is cheaper than a gaming PC.
What’s worse is that while there was a time when PC gaming was the way to go purely because of how much cheaper the games were, PC games have now crept up to the R1,000 mark.
Combine this with decent sales on PSN and Xbox Live and I can no longer in good faith say that PC gaming is cheaper than consoles.
Ease-of-use
It’s certainly changed for the worse in recent years, but for the most part consoles still offer a better plug-in-and-play option over PC.
They may run at lower framerates and worse graphics, but they also offer consistency and don’t require you to troubleshoot when things go wrong.
4K gaming
Yes the Xbox One S and PS4 don’t allow for native 4K gaming, but unless you’re packing an SLI setup or a GTX 1080, neither does your gaming PC.
The upscaled gaming provided by the new consoles offers a cheap buy-in option for anyone looking to make the step up to 4K gaming.
They’re also currently the cheapest 4K Blu-ray players on the market.
Exclusives
This is the big one.
Despite the new Windows 10 Play Anywhere program, there are still dozens of must-play games that are only available on console.
Some will eventually make their way over to the Windows 10 store and/or Steam, but important tiles like The Last of us and Halo: The Master Chief Collection can still only be found on their respective platforms.
Add to this games that just play better on a controller (like the FIFA games) and it’s suddenly worth having a console around the house.
