No Man’s Sky designer leaves Hello Games to work on Star Citizen

17 November 2016

Longtime Hello Games employee Gareth Bourn has left the company to work on Star Citizen, according to his LinkedIn page.

Bourn’s role at Hello Games was both Designer and QA Manager.

Bourn is now listed as a Live Designer for Foundry 42, the company currently working on Chris Roberts’ ambitious Star Citizen project.

This follows the controversial launch of No Man’s Sky, which suffered everything from player outrage and false advertising investigations to awkward social media situations.

Star Citizen is no stranger to controversy either, with many backers frustrated at the game’s continuous delays despite its $100 million budget.

The ambitious space sim is still in Alpha, and like No Man’s Sky, Star Citizen has a list of ambitious expectations to meet upon launch.

Some indie developers have commented on the hire, with Line of Defense designer Derek Smart tweeting that Bourn had “quit quietly from one sinking canoe to a sinking luxury cruise liner.”
