As November comes to an end this week and December rolls in, there are some big games touching down to mark the conclusion of the month, and of course, that means we need to help your wallet out wherever we can; so we’ve rounded up some great deals happening this week that you should keep an eye out for.
Ratchet & Clank – R468 (Raru)
Ratchet & Clank make their PS4 debut with a rebooted iteration of the beloved galactic adventurers, and while it also ties into the recent animated feature film, it avoids the trope of becoming a terrible licensed adaptation. The platforming is fun and fresh, the weapons are as bizarre and satisfying as you would expect from an Insomniac game, and it’s one of the best-looking games on the PS4.
Ratchet & Clank is a triumphant return for the duo and a must-play for anyone familiar with the franchise or looking for something with a little colour, humour, and some impeccably tight gameplay mechanics.
Recore – R349 (BT Games)
While it has a few shortcomings, ReCore is one of the most interesting games to come out this year. Designed by one the creators behind Mega Man and Metroid Prime, ReCore is a third-person action adventure, which stars Joule — one of the last surviving humans — who’s fighting her way through a destroyed desert world, working with a series of quirky mechanical pets to help her fight robotic villains.
It’s got interesting combat, platforming, and puzzle elements, which wrap up tightly into a fun and rather beautiful campaign.
Gears of War 4 – R499 (Loot)
The Gears of War franchise returns with new characters, new enemies, a new mission, and a new developer on board, and manages to remind us exactly what made Gears so damn likeable in the first place. It doesn’t diverge too far away from the cover-shooter formula that made the original trilogy a hit, but does introduce new gameplay twists thanks to some great environmental changes and snazzy guns that mix up the chainsawing carnage.
Gears 4 is also spectacular to look at, and is a shining flagship for the Xbox One at this point. This is as high-quality as a triple-A release comes, and it’s expansive multiplayer and Horde 3.0 modes give the Gearsseries legs that will outlast until the next outing.
Destiny – R149.90 (BT Games)
Even with its stumbles, the initial release of Destiny was a colossal achievement in interactive design, integrating a number of differing genre elements into a smart and unified game. Story-based campaigning, co-op comradeship, or adversarial annihilation – Destiny delivers on all fronts.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – R299 (Makro)
The last couple of Assassin’s Creed titles have left us wanting a little more, but the most recent entry into the series, Syndicate, delivers in spades. Set in 1868 London, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate marks the first time players can switch between two main protagonists freely throughout the game, and the first main game with a playable female character.
The two Fryes have specialised uses like Jacob being better in close combat and Evie excelling in stealth maneuvers. Syndicate also includes a new means of transportation in the rope launcher that allows Evie and Jacob to rappel up buildings and use a zip-line between them, and carriages and trains can be used to get around London.
