With Valentine’s Day arriving this week, the scent of love is in the air — but there’s also a hint of glorious headshots and bloodied steel coming our way too.
Sniper Elite 4
14 February 2017 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
Sniper Elite 4 is the fourth instalment in the highly-acclaimed Sniper Elite series, and it’s back with even more gruesome bullet time and enormous open-world levels to sneak through. Grizzled sniper Karl Fairburne is still battling his way alone through World War 2 and he’s made it as far as Mussolini’s Italy where the Nazis are welcomed guests. Spoiler: Karl doesn’t feel quite the same way.
This time around, the sharpshooting action takes players to the Italian peninsula with levels significantly larger than the previous entry and the biggest for the series yet. Players will explore coastal towns, Nazi megastructures, forests, and mountain monasteries. The new, larger levels lend themselves to more open-ended gameplay with plenty of different routes to victory.
For Honor
14 February 2017 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
Medieval warfare game For Honor sees players take on the role of a Viking, Samurai or Knight, with each faction offering its own unique abilities. Unusually, players use controller’s analogue sticks to control movements and actions in battle, demanding greater accuracy to be successful. There will be a full campaign mode for each faction (which can be played solo or in two-player co-op), as well as multiplayer (which will be a sure hit).
It’s something different, and a the meticulous detail that Ubisoft has paid to the combat system makes us extremely excited to see the gameplay depth the game has on offer. Ubisoft is also eyeing For Honor as its new big franchise, much like Tom Clancy’s or Assassin’s Creed, so it should deliver.
