A cinematic trailer for Blizzard’s forthcoming follow up to last year’s blockbuster RTS, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, has found its way onto the internet a little earlier than the publisher had anticipated. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty’s single player campaign told the game’s story from the perspective of the indomitable Terran space marines.
Heart of the Swarm will focus on the Zerg’s side of the story when it is most likely released next year. This is not the first Heart of the Swarm video leak, and a video emerged last year which basically spoiled the game’s ending.
Fortunately, this latest trailer hardly tells much of a story. The 45 second clip begins with a team of Terran Ghost operatives entering a compound looking for the Zerg leader Kerrigan. As they enter they are blown away by some sort of energy field. The primary Terran protagonist Jim Raynor then enters a chamber where he finds Kerrigan standing with her back to him.
There is still no estimated release time frame for StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and Blizzard is sticking to its usual “when it’s done” mantra, although the publisher has stated that its unlikely that the game will be out this year. Following Heart of the Swarm will be the game’s third and final expansion pack; Legacy of the Void, which will give players more insight into the Protoss campaign.
StarCraft II was one of 2010’s most lauded PC games, and earned a Metacritic score of 93/100. While it is probably best known for its grueling online leagues, Blizzard has not skimped on the game’s single player component.
