This week sees the return of two long-running franchises, along with a port to the Switch which Nintendo gamers should be ecstatic about.

Need for Speed: Payback

10 November (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

The Need for Speed series has been around the block, covering all sorts of themes in recent years, but the veteran racer is coming back to its roots: breaking the law with high-speeds and gorgeous tuned-up vehicles.

The latest game arriving this week, Payback, takes a narrative-inspired spin, throwing you into the shoes of a driver looking for revenge.

Taking place in the fictional Fortune Valley, players can purchase new cars or rebuild abandoned derelicts, and can customise their vehicles with parts they either win or buy. They can use those rides to participate in races, missions, and activities in single player or multiplayer SpeedLists.

Sonic Forces

7 November (Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PC)

Everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic hedgehog returns in the latest instalment of the long running franchise, but this time around, the series is shaking things up with custom characters.

For the first time, you can design your own hero to race alongside the blue blur. And depending on which base you choose, your custom hero can use different powers to traverse each level.
