Thousands upon thousands of strategy buffs the world over have for years been enamoured with Relic’s Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. In many ways, it has become a cornerstone in the strategy genre, standing opposite the mighty StarCraft II.
THQ core games boss Danny Bilson has for the first time discussed the next major release in the franchise, telling Eurogamer that Relic is “working on the next-generation of that franchise right now.”
“I feel like an ass saying it’s fantastic, but it is. And we’re going to do something with it you haven’t seen before.
“Preserving some things that have always been great about the first two generations of it, going back to 1 on some things, 2 on some things, and 3 will bring us some new things.
“When you see it you’re going to go, whoa. I promise.”
Bilson also suggested that Dawn of War III would be released 18 months after Dawn of War II, which means we can expect it late next year. He described Dawn of War III as “sort of MMO-like,” playing out against a “global battle”.
THQ has announced that it will reveal a new game at Gamescom in August, and there’s a strong possibility that it will be Dawn of War III.
