The new real-time strategy game Dune: Spice Wars will launch as a Steam early access title on 26 April.
Dune: Spice Wars is based on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi universe and will be developed by Shiro Games and published by Funcom.
The game will revolve around the ongoing conflict between the four factions on the desert planet Arrakis over controlling the most valuable resource in the universe, Spice.
Players will be able to explore the world with ornithopters, expand their sphere of control with troops to increase political power, and face their enemies in combat.
The developer has confirmed that the Fremen will be one of the four playable factions at the game’s launch.
The Fremen will move faster than other factions in the desert landscape, have improved resistance to its harsh conditions and attract less attention from sandworms.
The other factions are the House Harkonnen, House Atreides, and the Smugglers, who will all have their unique strengths.
Since the initial release won’t include a single-player campaign or multiplayer, the developers plan to use the early access period to add new features and improve the game based on player feedback.
Funcom has also announced that it is developing an open-world survival multiplayer game set in the Dune universe.
