Dune: Spice Wars gets multiplayer update

21 June 2022

Shiro Games has released a multiplayer game mode for the acclaimed 4X strategy game Dune: Spice Wars.

This is great news for fans of the game, as this has been the biggest criticism of an otherwise popular title.

The new multiplayer feature lets up to four players play together in a free-for-all format or a 2v2 versus mode.

The multiplayer matches can be tailored to the player’s desires as AI difficulty, map size, victory conditions, sandworm aggression, frequency of storms, and the Sietches can all be set before starting the game.

This multiplayer mode is particularly exciting given the game’s four factions each have unique playstyles and methods of winning. Each player picking a different faction in multiplayer can lead to interesting interactions.

“Take the path of honor and political power as the respected House Atreides, or choose violence and devious plots as House Harkonnen. Become master of desert survival and guerilla tactics with the native Fremen and gain influence through shady deals and infiltration as the Smugglers,” the game’s description reads on Steam.

While the addition of multiplayer is the headline feature of this update, it also adds new political resolutions, events, regions and balance and reworks of factions – you can find the full update notes here.

The four-player multiplayer is now available, and the title is currently on sale on Steam until 23 June.
