Rumour control: Counter-Strike sequel in the works

12 August 2011

What do you want more than anything else ever? If you said a “Counter-Strike sequel, omg”, you’re so in luck today.

Looks like Valve has been developing the game on the down-low, but news of recent playtesting is breaking all over the internet now, and an official announcement is expected sometime later today.

The game is apparently called Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, supported by evidence over on the SteamPowered forums (that’s Jess Cliffe there, one of Counter-Strike’s creators), posts on the ESEA’s Facebook page, and a pretty comprehensive Q&A on Reddit.

According to that last one, some of the game’s features include:

•    Free ammo, although this may or may not change
•    New guns, Molotov and decoy grenades
•    Free armour, although this also is a matter of hot debate for the moment, with the poster adding that he’s “pretty sure this will be changed”
•    Some maps return from CS: Source, but “have been altered”
