Windows 8 to include Xbox LIVE service

14 September 2011

As part of its ongoing commitment to putting Xbox LIVE on everything, everywhere, Microsoft has announced that Windows 8 will be shipping out with the service built-in.

“We are very excited about Xbox LIVE coming to Windows 8,” writes Xbox LIVE community manager Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) over on his blog.

“Xbox LIVE brings your games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favorite Microsoft and Windows devices. Bringing Xbox LIVE to Windows 8 is part of our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy,” said the Major.

Which says a whole lot, and nothing much at all, although rumours have been going about for some time already that Windows 8 machines will be able to play Xbox LIVE game discs.

It’s not exactly clear what this means for Microsoft’s Games For Windows LIVE label, although any possibility of it being binned is probably a possibility worth believing in.
