Battlefield 3 tweaking utility works from Windows desktop

4 November 2011

One of the best things about PC gaming is the modding community. Groups of dedicated and knowledgeable individuals have over the years created custom mods that have changed, reinvented and completely fixed games.

A TechPowerUp user called Mindweaver has created a Battlefield 3 application simply called “BF3 Config Utility” which allows users to configure the game’s graphics options from Windows. The tool is now on version 1.5 and features such as the Vertical Look (Invert Mouse) setting, mouse sensitivity settings and a new advanced tab layout have been implemented.

The tool is lightweight, weighing in at less than 1MB. From the most basic settings such as resolution, to more advanced options such as horizontal and vetical field of view, as well as the full range of tweakable graphics and sound options, the utility allows you to customize the game down to every last detail from within Windows.

The tool also enables you to create custom profiles, useful for switching between a few core favourites custom setting profiles.

This is a feature that could come in particularly handy if you’re switching between the single player and multiplayer portions of the game, as many gamers are happy to sacrifice graphics quality for frame rate in multiplayer, but want to see the game looking its best in the single player campaign.

In my experience with the utility, it has been stable and fast, and effective at changing Battlefield 3’s in-game settings.

“This graph clearly proves that altering the standard FOV is tantamount to cheating!”
