Games releasing this week (13 – 18 November)

As we start approaching the quiet after the storm of all the big releases this year, we can finally slow down and take a breather while we wonder why all our money is gone.

But before that, let’s chuck in one more week, just for the hell of it.

The releases this week may not be of as an epic scale as the past three weeks’, but there are certainly some popular franchises getting their sequels, and also some daring new takes on old concepts.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations

Ezio and Altaïr are back – and for the last time.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations follows the two past Assassins as Desmond, their present-day end point of the genetic line, tries to discover what’s actually going on in this crazy, conspiracy-filled world.

Anyone who played through Brotherhood and caught the nasty little surprise ending, will be restlessly pacing up and down waiting for this.

This time we’ll be exploring Constantinople during the rise of the Ottoman Empire, and climbing up more ancient architecture and dashing through crowds.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations will be stabbing console gamers in the face on Wednesday, 15 November 2011.

Saints Row: The Third

What can be said about Saints Row The Third that can accurately describe it?

For one, the game is completely insane.

What started off as a GTA-clone a while back, has found its own meaning and direction in the sandbox genre – and now seems entirely focused on one thing: haveing as much fun as possible.

Zombies, big purple dildos, jets, hover bikes, controlled missiles – it’s tough to think that this is all actually packaged into one game – but it is, and that’s awesome.

Expect to be taking on missions – story or otherwise – or simply having the most random fun with a plethora of options, tools and moves available to you.

It’s looking brilliant. Saints Row The Third is taking over on Friday, 18 November 2011.

Need for Speed The Run

When you mix out-of-car sequences into your racing game, driving fans are sure to get their backs up and be super sceptical about the whole affair – and sure enough, word around the web at least reflects that.

But from the trailers we’ve seen and the hands-on time some of us got at rAge earlier this year, Need For Speed The Run is shaping up to be a pretty decent affair.

Running off of DICE‘s Frostbite 2 engine (Battlefield 3’s engine) means that it already has a solid start to life.

The game looks like it’s going to take the focus off of pure arcade racing, and strap on an action-packed story which I’m sure will be full of Hollywood-esque set-pieces and scripted events.

Hopefully the game impresses, and doesn’t bomb the concept – we’ll see how it goes when it spins in this Friday, 18 November 2011.
