Saints Row: The Third is landing in stores today, and if you’re still a bit wary of the sandbox fun-house of randomness and ridiculous revelry, then here’s your chance to grab a last-minute glimpse into what game journos think.
MyGaming’s review should be stopping by soon, if we can convince Dan to stop murdering prostitutes with baby octopi long enough to write it up.
So far it looks as if Saints Row: The Third is actually being celebrated as a great title, gaining a 85% score on Metacritic and a slightly higher 85.93% on GameRankings for the Xbox 360 version of the game, based on 46 and 40 reviews respectively.
The PS3 version is sitting at 82% and 84% (based off of 26 and 18 reviews), while the PC is at 85% and 85.50% (based off of 7 and 6 reviews on each site).
So you’re looking at a fairly decent overall score of 85% , with Games Radar giving it 10/10, saying “it’s ludicrous and lewd, but it’s also a joy to play, a streamlined sandbox that hooks the fun directly into your veins.”

An experience unlike any other. It never takes itself too seriously, it remembers that games should be fun and they should entertain. It’s not that any particular part stands out above the other, rather, on the whole, everything is just downright awesome. The character creator alone warrants multiple playthroughs and the story is literally only half the game. Full Review

SR3 contains a lot off the wall violence that’ll satiate your need for random video game fun for a number of hours. It’s bookended by great opening and closing moments, and topped off by a competent co-op mode. You’ll devote more time to the game than just the story fueled segments, and SR3 will certainly keep you interested past the end credits scroll. Full Review
Joystiq 4.5/5
Saints Row: The Third doesn’t play like recent THQ efforts have — all bark and no bite — but instead feels like a labor of love. It feels like the developers had fun, and they wanted you to feel it too. And I promise, you will. Full Review

Steelport is a glorious sandbox with fun around every corner and the well-written story and easy-to-use design make Saints Row 3 a fantastic package. Full Review
GameSpot 8.5/10
Fantastic missions, outrageous weapons, and awesome vehicles make the open-world mayhem of Saints Row: The Third an absolute blast. Full Review
IGN 8.5/10
Saints Row: The Third gives the people what they want and drops us into an open world adult theme park where we can treat ourselves to delightful acts of bloodshed and perversion. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and only asks that you don’t, either. Full Review
GameTrailers 7.7/10
Shining novelties fueled by base guffaws quickly devolve into gimmicks. No one is expecting War and Peace to play out in the streets of Stilwater. What you should reasonably expect, and what Saints Row: The Third fails to deliver, is a clever Mad Magazine parody, something more than a middle school mentality expressed with a high budget. What you get is a sandbox game that’s fun for a spell, but one that you’ll outgrow pretty fast. Full Review
Eurogamer 7/10
There are traces of that excess here, but they arrive too late and change the formula too little to really make a meaningful difference. It’s still a cynical slice of dirty fun, but the most damning aspect of Saints Row: The Third is that where the all-important lulz are concerned, there’s precious little here that you couldn’t already do in Saints Row 2.
