What we’re playing this weekend (19-20 November)

19 November 2011

Quinton Bronkhorst

This weekend I’ve suddenly got time to dip into the huge library of games that I have piling up. I’m definitely going to delve into Skyrim some more, and also whack thugs with giant purple dildos in Saints Row: The Third – but I’m sure Assassin’s Creed Revelations will be taking up most of my attention. GAMING WEEKEND GO GO GO!

I’ll be splitting my gaming time between Battlefield 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, both of which are among my favourite games of the year. Despite the fact the Skyrim is a bit glitchy and badly ported to PC, I’m having a lot of fun with it and can’t wait to dive in to the world of user created mods. Battlefield 3 on the other hand is particularly special on PC, and is without a doubt my can’t-put-it-down game of the year.

Damn you, Friday night work drinks. Your boozy misbehavior is totally uncalled for, mainly because I have Assassin’s Creed: Revelations waiting for me at home. What’s that? Just play it afterwards, you say? Um, sure, I’m gonna whisk around ancient Istanbul stabbing people in the face when I can barely see my flippin’ TV.

And what are you looking at, Saturday night house party? Yeah, you; it’s not like you’re much better than Friday considering you’re keeping me from Saints Row The Third. How am I supposed to get my review done with all this pesky socializing going on; hmmm? Surely beating a pedestrian over the head with a giant, purple dildo is more important?

And you, Sunday cricket at The Wanderers. Oh, you’ve got some nerve buddy, preying on my patriotism and love of drinking beer in the sunshine when you know very well I’ve just bought a bunch of new iOS games. Ugh. I can’t even look at you.

Actually, you know what? Screw you all! I vote we just skip this cursed weekend all together. At least work on Monday has a real excuse.

This weekend I’ll be jamming Modern Warfare 3. Not going to let that one slide, are you? Yes, alright; I like the game and that’s what I’m playing but I’m not ready to talk about it yet. Other than that I’m going to be hitting a bit of backlog and finishing off Amnesia (keep wussing out), and also Trine, my much-praised indie which I seem to have forgotten about.

James Etherington-Smith

I just can’t get enough of Battlefield 3, so I’ll likely be giving as good as I get on Caspian Border this weekend. I’ve been brushing up on my flying skills, so expect at least lucky kill before I crash into the capture point (I planned it all along). Other than that, Skyrim is a great game thus far, and I’ve started been modding various bits of it to eke out better visuals and performance.
