If you’re like me and you absolutely loved Anno 1404, then you will have been waiting with a mixture of trepidation and wild-eyed excitement for the release of Ubisoft’s latest in the series: Anno 2070.

Developed by Related Designs in collaboration with Blue Byte, Anno 2070 mixes things up for the series by being set in the near future, “where climate change has forced humanity to adapt to rising sea levels that have left stretches of once-fertile land completely inhospitable,” reads the official blurb.

Where previous Anno games presented fundamental challenges such as building the basic foundations of a civilisation, Anno 2070 shifts the goal posts and demands that players balance tasks like feeding their population against maintaining environmentally sustainable settlements. It’s a tweak to the formula that has made the franchise so successful, and it could have gone horribly wrong.

Fortunately though, if early reviews are anything to go by, it worked out just fine.
