BFG unveils monster gaming PC

14 February 2009

Enthusiast PC hardware manufacturer BFG has announced the “Phobos”, a super high-end gaming machine catering to those that want monster performance but can’t be bothered to put it all together themselves.

The high end Phobos elite makes use of two BFG Nvidia GTX 295 graphics cards, as well Intel’s Core i7 965 extreme edition CPU. Keeping things cool is a Coolit Contained Liquid Cooling solution.

The basic functioning of the system can be monitored and controlled using a case mounted LCD touch panel screen. The LCD panel will monitor system stats such as temperatures, memory/CPU and GPU speeds, storage capacity and network connectivity.

The panel will also allow users to make use of more basic functions, like controlling system volume.

Apart from fulfilling its role as a top notch gaming platform, Phobos is also a fully kitted out media center, featuring a TV tuner with DVR, a Blu-ray disk player, Hi-Def surround sound and an iPod docking station.

Aesthetically, Phobos fits bang in line with what we would expect from BFG with its slick black gloss finish.

Unfortunately, Phobos is not available locally with nothing to indicate that the system will be heading to local shores. However, the price tag is likely to alienate the vast majority of gamers, coming in at $3000 for the “entry level” offering and topping out at $8000 for the elite model.

While the Phobos does sound incredible, and we at MyGaming certainly wouldn’t pass one up, the idea of a R30000 “entry level” gaming PC may just be bit more than even we are willing to seriously indulge.
