Valve announced yesterday that they will be bringing in game DLC to their titles from now on. This effectively means that players will be able to download additional in-game content while they are logged into STEAM and playing a game.
Players will not be required to go to the STEAM storefront to make DLC purchases, but can do them from the in game menu.
“DLC can now be added to any game on Steam, regardless of whether it was originally purchased via Steam, at retail, or via other digital outlets,” writes Valve. “It is also a feature of Steamworks, the suite of free tools and services available to game developers and publishers.”
The first in game DLC will be released for The Maw in the form of two expansion levels, each selling for $1.25 (R14).
The community response to PC DLC has been mixed. On one hand, some gamers are pleased that they will be able to purchase additional content for their favorite games. However, the counter argument is that in the past, extra content such as map packs have been available for free to PC users.
