Sims 3 exceeds 1.4million sales in opening week

10 June 2009

EA announced today that it managed to sell over 1.4million copies of the Sims 3 in its first week. EA went on to say that this is the strongest launch they have ever experienced with a PC game.

Previous controversies surrounding EA’s invasive digital right management (DRM) software that shipped with previous titles such as Spore lead EA to announce prior to The Sims 3 launch that the game would require one simple disk check and that there would be no heavy DRM restrictions on the game.

“We feel like this is a good, time-proven solution that makes it easy for you to play the game without DRM methods that feel overly invasive or leave you concerned about authorization server access in the distant future,” EA announced in an official release.

The Sims 3 has fared well with reviewers so far, achieving an average Metacritic score of 87%.
