Square Enix sued over Final Fantasy XI deception

25 June 2009

Esther Long of San Franscisco has filed a class action suit against Square Enix on the grounds that the developer lied about monthly fees for Final Fantasy XI.

According to Long, Square Enix concealed the fact that the game requires a monthly fee in order to play.

Furthermore, the game penalizes players for not paying their monthly fees on time by applying interest and various restrictions. All this is done without the customer being properly informed according to Long.

The class action suit is seeking damages of more than $5million for deceiving 100,000 customers. The charges range from unfair business practices to false advertising.
