Pre-MPLD Talk: moonCow of Calamity

3 July 2009

With just days to go, and the tension mounting, we are bringing the community a number of ‘pre-MPLD Talk’s’ with some of the players that will be attending the event. The third edition sees us talking to a hugely respected player in the Counter-Strike: Source community, Brendon “moonCow” Dell.

Calamity lineup:

Alistair “Lag_beast” Bouman
Brendon “moonCow” Dell
Donovan “nod” Fourie
David “PaCmaN” Harrison
Ashton “Golz” Muller

Could you give a description of each of your teammates and their roles within the team?

Ashton “Golz” Muller – I think Golz is one of the key players in calamity. He has the skill and knowledge of the game to get through any situation presented to him whether it be taking a bombsite or even a 1v3 situation. Golz is like the wing man to each team member, his role in the team is putting pressure on the opposite team in needed times. He is easily able to lead into any attack and still walk away alive at the end of the round! Attacking is not his only strong point he also has the ability to defend a bomb site always taking between 1 and 5 players down on a rush.

Alistair “Lag_beast” Bouman – Lag is the motivator in our team. When we down and out he always pushes us to take the next round. Always willing us on for the win. He is also the backbone of the team as well as its leader. He has a keen sense in knowing what the other teams have up their sleeves. Lag is capable of playing any role in the team whether it be attack or defense. His speciality is getting picks. Opening windows for the rest of us mongrels to attack. (HE AWPS LIKE A DEMON!).

David “PaCmaN” Harrison – The newest member into the professional scene and a breath of fresh air into calamity. Paccy is our witch doctor. He has this ability to sense rushes and the bones never lie! Paccy is one of our pick players. He plays very well along side us all. With the uncanny ability to lighten up our moods and get us through a tough game. The outcome doesn’t matter as paccy brings us up with his commentary. I myself think that paccy is one of the key players of getting us through a game. Another role paccy plays is one of our teams awpers. No matter what happens paccy always gets his picks! (GG)

Donovan “nod” Fourie – Nod be the dutch courage in the team. Our only boer he has the ability to beat any bombsite down with a dertignulses. Nod is one of our key rushers with the ability to blind the enemy with his undeniable fury and take down players in tough situations. His AK and deagle shots have stunned even us in the team. He is able to gel well with any of the rest of the team. He also has the ability to take down at least 2 to 3 players on the rush making it easy for the rest of the team.(actually when he does that he makes the rest of us look bad… why do we have him in the team again? Hehe). (Die deagle gaan praat. Beter luister)

Brendon “moonCow” Dell – (edit – nod) There is no need to rant and rave. Everyone knows that he is the best! Kidding, wow, ego boost. Every team needs that one player that ever one can rely on and moony is exactly that player. Whenever there is a problem in the team he is the one that sorts it out. Moony knows exactly how to stop rushes with his counter flash and all that… and a bag of chips (awp lols). Moony has been on the CSS scene for ages (old man) and knows the ins and outs of most situations. He is a key defender as a CT and a key rusher as a T. Moony’s awp, deagle, M4 and AK shots have made people’s heads turn. Alongside lagbeast a backbone member in keeping this team moving forward.

Calamity blasted onto the scene more than a year ago, with the team taking 2nd place at one of the most competitive BattleLan’s to ever take place, with Pantheon, Damage Control and Bravado in attendance, is the team looking to regain its former glory or has the mindset of the team changed to a more relaxed vibe?

I think we have a very good balance between relaxed and taking it serious. When it’s time to pull threw and play competitive all our members put on their game faces. No matter what the team always has a good time playing, I think a lot of teams have lost their ability to enjoy a game and yet play serious at the same time. Calamity is one of those exceptions where it is always good fun, winning or losing. I myself have large hopes for the future of the team. I think we are going to bring it back and challenge the top guys in our community.

What are your predictions for the event?

Going to be a tough call, there are a lot of good teams attending this event. I myself would like to see calamity in the top 3. I am sure we are going to see Pantheon, eternal Conflict, Calamity and mint fighting it out for top spots. Good luck to everyone! Bring it on!

Who do you believe will be the underdog at the event, and might turn some heads?

There has been a lot of talk about calamity being the underdogs in this event. I do think Swift is going to give some teams a run for their money! With players like Aimzone and Copy, their skill with an awp is amazing online. I can promise it will be better on LAN! Hope to see u guys in the semis!

The BOTC v5 will commence right after the Pantheon MPLD Challenge, is your team prepared for this online competition, and do you believe it will be more competitive than ever?

The members in the team gel very well together but we are still learning. We will be ready for any challenge ahead of us. With teams like Pantheon playing in the BOTCv5 we know that it is going to be a good challenge and a lot of fun!

Some say the South African gaming scene is in disarray and is a ship slowly sinking. Do you believe events like the Pantheon MPLD Challenge, and the rAge 2009 event reinvigorate the community, or do some more drastic interventions need to be taken?

I believe any event we can put forth to the players in South Africa will “reinvigorate” the community. I believe if we could get more companies involved in the gaming community we would see bigger events such as rage throughout the year and not only held annually. Pantheon is doing a great job in keeping what is left of our community involved and active. Big ups to them! Hopefully we will see more events like this in the future.

Thank you for your time, any shoutouts?

I wanna say thank you to my…………….. lol nah! Bigups to everyone and good luck this weekend.. its going to be one sick comp! glhfhsdca
