Modern Warfare 2 PC release date still unknown

8 October 2009

Earlier this week reports emerged that the highly anticipated PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had been delayed.

After much speculation, Infinity Ward finally came forward and confirmed the rumors, but did not give an official new release date, or any reason for the delay. Rumors then surfaced that the PC version would be released on November 24, however, there has been no official comment from the developer on the matter. Despite this, a number of local retailers have listed the game for release on the 24th.

While many have been assuming that the game will arrive on the 24th, a twitter post by Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling (fourzerotwo) has added even more uncertainty to the situation.

“I know our PC players are anxious for official word. I am as well. I will let you know as soon as I do. I promise. When I left, it was fine.” Said bowling.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game have been unaffected by the delay, and are still scheduled for local release on November 11. While Modern Warfare 2’s predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, enjoys a massive console following, it is also South Africa’s biggest online first-person-shooter for PC, making it arguably the most anticipated PC game of the year.

Some PC gamers are taking solace in the fact that the delay will give them more time to play other big titles that are releasing around the same time, such as Borderlands, Dragon Age, Left4Dead 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2 which is sure to see a bump in sales due to the delay of Modern Warfare 2.
