Remedy Entertainment has released the full version of its 1996 racer – Death Rally for free on Fileshack.
The release has been ported for modern PCs but lacks multiplayer, reports Shack News. “”It was built for the modem and IPX network era, and would have needed a full rewrite.” explained Remedy.
Death Rally was widely hailed as one of the best games of 1996 and includes deadly races in which each vehicle is armed to the hilt with potentially race ending weapons. Each player begins the game with $495 and a sub-par car named Vagabond.
Through winning races, completing missions and collecting bonus money players can upgrade their existing vehicle or buy a new one. Six cars are featured in the game and the ultimate goal is to defeat the Adversary, who is the undisputed king of Death Rally.
The 42MB download is available now.
